Community Education

Valley Trauma Center is dedicated to remaining a visible resource in the community. Our Prevention Education Team takes an active role via:

  • Ongoing participation in local community events such as health fairs, safety fairs, and cultural fairs.

  • Active involvement in local chambers, round tables, government committees, health committees, and education committees.

  • Liaisons with other community members in creative collaborations.

  • Developing educational materials and making them available to other social service agencies for distribution.

Our Prevention Education Team provides ongoing trainings to other agencies and service providers. In addition, Valley Trauma Center is committed to training first responders and those whom survivors first turn to for help, such as law enforcement and hospital personnel. Our Prevention Education Team will:

  • Train your staff at both a clinical and informational level.

  • Help increase available tools and resources.

In collaboration with California State University Northridge's Police Department, Valley Trauma Center offers the R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Systems Self Defense Program.

  • The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women.

  • The R.A.D. Systems is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.
  •   The R.A.D Systems Program is designed to develop and enhance your options of self-defense so that they may become viable considerations in the event of an attack.
